Learning to use line effectively is a powerful tool for an artist. So to that end we did an observational drawing from around the classroom using line only. To see the results click here, or on the image to the right.
Line and value are inextricably intertwined. A well versed artist can use both well. This allows greater control over their vision and how to communicate visually. With that in mind the 2d students were asked to revisit the subject of their line drawing and rediscover it using only value. Here are the results. |
Photoshop is deep and complex, and can be overwhelming to many. This is why I start students exploring Photoshop with a text assignment. Its small, and easy to grasp, but introduces a lot of ideas that Photoshop uses in more complex pieces. Such as layers, blending options, layer fx, and it uses some of the most common tools in the tools palate. If you want to see what the students did, click here. |
After getting their feet wet with text in Photoshop, we moved on to selection tools. Selecting what you want to work with, or alter is crucial to having success in Photoshop. It expands some of what they learned in making their text and sets them up nicely for the final poster project. To see the selection tool assignments, click here. |
After working with the text tool and learning how to select objects to be used or tweaked the students were then asked to create something more akin to a poster. Here are the results. |
