Welcome to The Gallery page for FOundation Art II
Perspective is one of the most fundamental ways for an artist to create a sense of illusionistic space. After introducing my students to 1 and 2 point perspective they then had the chance to explore it in line only. To see what they drew, click here, or on the image to your right. |
Since the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design are so fundamental to being able to formally understand, and speak intelligently about art, I do stress their importance. In this assignment they had a chance to use them to create images that captured the Element or Principle. Take a look and see what they did here |
My Georgia O'Keefe/Roy Lichtenstein project is one of my favorites. I see these two artists as polar opposites on the artistic spectrum. After an introduction to each, the students have to choose one or the other and do a piece in the spirt of that artist.
Either, O'Keefe, with her blown up flowers, modeled colors, and embrace of nature. Or, Lichtentstein who uses words, big bold areas of color and ben-day dots, people or machinery. Two very different artistic tastes to be considered. If you are interested in the students solutions, you can click here. |
We are exploring line and value with the investigation of boxes, drapery, and cups. These quick drawings, 25 minutes apiece, was designed to have the students make quicker decisions and to have the students not feel each mark is so precious, as I work on trying to have the students use drawing as an exploration of objects and space. Click here, or the drawing on the left to see the exploration. |
Free Draw! Between the drawings of the boxes, we had time in the shorter classes each week to discuss what we did and do some drawing outside. It gives the students the freedom to choose their own subject as well as how to draw. If you want to see what interested them, you can find it here. |
Drawing off a ground. This is a challenging assignment because it is a very different way to draw then most students are use too. It takes some time and patience to coax the image from the ground, while adding and subtracting graphite as opposed to just adding lines or value. Come see this experiment here. |
Portraits, as old as drawing itself. It intrigues and frustrates students and old masters alike. I have pondered this assignment for sometime, but this is the first time I have done it and it was successful and I will be using it again in the future. Some see the results here. |
