Foundation 1-Portraits
I think you will agree these are very strong pieces, considering the human face is not easy to draw!
This is a different take on the portrait though. First I choose unknown people. Angelina Jolie snuck in there, (I didn't know it was her) and there is one other famous person with a not so famous face, that I did let in, but as a whole I wanted students to be worried about the face and its structure, not the person. To that end I also didn't let them see who they were picking.
Holding the printouts face down and fanned like cards the students had to pick blindly. Next we cut the printout in half. One of the halves is taped down on the paper. The student then draws the missing half. For the background I asked them to make something "interesting and engaging."
In some cases its hard to believe that one half is actually drawn!
