Free Choice, Value and Line, And Emphasis
Studio Art is a very small class so I combined a some of the strong pieces over two projects. The first project was a Free Choice which can be daunting due to its complete openness.
The Free Choice is a way for me to get a peek into the students head. Their likes, and interests. Their drawing strengths and weaknesses. It helps give me a road map to how to approach the year.
We also discussed the use of Line and Value, both Elements of Art. How they can work together, while adding variety to a work. How to make marks that the eye finds interesting.
Emphasis is one of the Principles of Design that helps the artist direct and control the viewers eye. So we talked about the different ways an artist can use emphasis to their benefit and then asked them to create a work that demonstrates this principle.
